Breast Cancer Survival Center Presents Nutrition Talk
Women who have completed breast cancer treatment are invited to attend a free presentation by nutritionist Michelle Bartlett, “Eat Well, Live Well: Healthy Nutrition for a Healthy Life.” The talk, part of the Breast Cancer Survival Center’s special speakers’ series, will be held at the Fairfield County Women’s Center, Room 116 on the West campus of Norwalk Community College, on Tuesday, May 23, at 5:30 p.m.
Registration for the meeting is suggested by calling the Breast Cancer Survival Center at 203-857-7304, or on-line at cancersurvival@aol.com. Seating is limited.
“Once treatment for breast cancer is completed, enormous issues are just beginning,” said Susan Santangelo, BCSC founder, and a survivor herself. “Diet, exercise, family relations and general wellness are some of the concerns that survivors face.
“Not only are there new advances in medical treatments for breast cancer,” she added, “but also in addressing the needs of breast cancer survivors after their treatments are completed.”
The Breast Cancer Survival Center (BCSC) is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1999, which provides post-treatment education and support for breast cancer survivors and their families. BCSC is the only program in the state of Connecticut devoted exclusively to post-treatment issues, and operates at facilities generously provided by Norwalk Community College and also at satellite locations. More information on the Center is available at www.breastcancersurvival.org.
Among the services BCSC provides are support and discussion groups, a buddy program for doctors’ appointments and mammograms, a quarterly newsletter, a special speakers series featuring experts in the field of cancer and related topics, awareness events, weekend and day retreats, and a resource library.
BCSC is open to any breast cancer survivor no matter where or how long ago treatment took place. Since the Breast Cancer Survival Center began offering services in September 1999, more than 2000 survivors and family members have participated in its programs.
